Mourning Dove

Perched on the roof, welcoming the day, the haunting call of a mourning dove sounds overhead as I type.

Mourning Doves mate for life and their families have been living on our hill since we built our home 27 years ago.

Sauder Village Rug Hooking Week has loomed large over my summer as I prep to be a vendor (woo hoo!), and it occurred to me that although I have featured most of our farm animals in a rug design, the mourning dove, our constant companion through all these years, had been left out.

So, here she is in pale gray surrounded by prim pastel flowers and background, fashioned into a pillow.

Sharing a bit of her progress and a photo of one of my granddaughters lending a hand to her busy "Marmee" as I rush to prepare for the show!

Mourning Doves are said to symbolize many things from remembering a loved one to peace and hope, and in my experience a constant morning companion so much more pleasing to listen to than a morning rooster!

May you enjoy peace and hope and sweet remembrances this day!
